Dursun Alehan

He graduated from Özel Darüşşafaka High School and the Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. He completed his specialty training in the Department of Pediatrics at Hacettepe University in 1992, and his subspecialty training in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1996. He became an Associate Professor in 1997 and a Professor in 2003.

Between 1997 and 1999, he worked for two years at Duke University in North Carolina, USA, in the fields of echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and interventional cardiology, and in 2011 he worked for 2 months at Birmingham Children's Hospital in the USA in the fields of three-dimensional echocardiography and pediatric heart disease.

His special areas of interest are the diagnosis and treatment of all kinds of congenital and acquired heart diseases, pulmonary hypertension (high pressure in the lungs), rheumatic fever, echocardiography, rhythm disorders, relief of narrowing in heart valves and vessels with a balloon (balloon angioplasty), and closure of holes in the heart by a closed method (transcatheter method).

Prof. Dr. Dursun Alehan has more than 100 publications in English in international journals and numerous publications in Turkish.

He was awarded the Hacettepe University Research Group Achievement Award for the 1998-1999 academic year, the Hacettepe University Science Encouragement Award for the 2000-2001 academic year, and the Hacettepe University Research Group Achievement Award for the 2009-2010 academic year.

He received a TÜBİTAK NATO-B1 scholarship and a YÖK scholarship to conduct scientific research in the United States of America.

Dr. Dursun Alehan currently works as a faculty member at Hacettepe University and serves as Head of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology.
