Osman İlhami Özcebe

He graduated at the top of his class from the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1984. He completed his internal medicine specialty training at Hacettepe in 1990. Married and the father of two children, Dr. Özcebe completed his hematology subspecialty training in the same department in 1993, and became an Associate Professor in 1995 and a Professor in 2002.

In 1997, he received training for one year at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States in blood banking, transfusion medicine, and apheresis practices. He currently works as a faculty member in the Division of Hematology, Department of Internal Medicine, and has served as Director of the Hacettepe Hospitals Blood Center and Apheresis Unit since 1998. During his term as Director of the Blood Center, he carried out the modernization project of the blood center and apheresis unit. At the same time, he served on various commissions of the Ministry of Health and worked to bring legislation on blood banking and apheresis into line with European Union legislation.

He is a founding member of the Turkish Apheresis Society, and served as its general secretary for 4 years and as its president for 1 year. He served as Chair of the Transfusion Medicine Subcommittee of the Turkish Society of Hematology, and as a member of the Blood Centers Scientific Commission at the Ministry of Health, the Blood and Blood Products Advisory Board, the Blood Services Training Commission, the Apheresis Photopheresis Commission, and the Therapeutic Apheresis Scientific Commission.

Until 2013, he served for 7 years as Head of the Hematology Unit in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine.
