Mert Çalış

Dr. Mert ÇALIŞ was born in Ankara on 16 November 1983. He completed his secondary and high school education at Ankara Atatürk Anatolian High School in 2000, and graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (English program) in 2006, receiving the title of medical doctor. In 2013 he completed his residency in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine and earned the title of plastic surgery specialist. Between 2013 and 2015 he fulfilled his compulsory state service at the Plastic Surgery Clinic of Ankara Training and Research Hospital. In 2019 he successfully completed the Advanced Plastic Surgery doctoral program at the Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences and received the title of MD-PhD. Between 2015 and 2018 he served as an assistant professor, between 2018 and 2024 as an associate professor, and since February 2024 as a professor in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, where he continues to work.

He has been honored with the following awards: Prof. Dr. Şeref Zileli - Outstanding Medical Student of the Year in 2005; first place in the Clinical Category of the Resident Paper Competition at the 34th National Congress of the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery in 2012; first place in the Experimental Category of the Specialist Research Competition at the 35th National Congress of the same society in 2013; and first place in the Experimental Category of the Specialist Research Competition at the 38th National Congress of the same society in 2016.In 2022 he received the "Best Pediatric/Craniofacial Paper" award of the journal "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery".

In 2013 he successfully passed the European Board of Plastic Surgery (EBOPRAS) examinations and obtained the European plastic surgery qualification title FEBOPRAS (Fellow of EBOPRAS).

He undertook educational work in pediatric plastic surgery and craniofacial surgery at Harvard University in 2005, at Yale University in 2011, and at the University of Washington Seattle Children's Hospital in 2018. In 2019-2020 he completed a clinical subspecialty fellowship in craniofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric plastic surgery at the University of Washington in the United States of America.

He has 60 articles published in journals indexed in the international SCI and SCI-E, and more than 40 scientific articles in national indexes.

His professional areas of interest include aesthetic surgery, craniomaxillofacial surgery, and cleft lip and palate.
