About
Dr. Göksel Güven completed medical education at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine between 2002 and 2008 and received specialty training in Internal Medicine at the Department of Internal Medicine, Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, between 2009 and 2013. Served as Chief Resident in the Department of Internal Medicine in 2012. Between 2014 and 2017, Dr. Güven completed the Intensive Care Training Program of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine and obtained the title of intensive care specialist. Served as chair of the Young Intensivists Commission in 2015-2016. During intensive care training, in 2016, was accepted as a research fellow at the Heart Failure Unit, Department of Cardiology, Erasmus Medical Center (Rotterdam, the Netherlands), where training was received and research was conducted on advanced heart failure patients, heart transplant patients, and mechanical cardiac support devices. Also in 2016, received training at the Department of Translational Physiology, Academic Medical Center (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), on the assessment of tissue oxygenation and microcirculation, handheld videomicroscopes, and laser-based microcirculation assessment techniques. Working at this center between 2016 and 2019, Dr. Güven conducted numerous studies evaluating tissue microcirculation, particularly in acute kidney injury and heart failure. Accepted in 2017 as a researcher at the Department of Intensive Care, Erasmus Medical Center (Rotterdam, the Netherlands), Dr. Güven was admitted to the PhD program by the Erasmus University Senate in 2018. Work continues on the PhD thesis titled “Microcirculatory and renal compromise in states of critical illness.” In 2017, was invited to the Burn and Trauma Center of Maasstad Ziekenhuis Hospital (Rotterdam, the Netherlands) to conduct research on the use of laser-based microcirculation assessment devices in burn patients, and on hemodynamic monitoring and fluid therapy management in patients with severe burns. In 2018, conducted research on fluid therapy and hemodynamic assessment in critically ill patients at the Department of Anesthesiology, St. Antonius Hospital (Utrecht, the Netherlands). Returning to Türkiye in 2019, Dr. Güven fulfilled the compulsory service obligation for two years at Tokat State Hospital, serving there as deputy chief physician for one year. In 2020, began working as a lecturer in the Internal Medicine Intensive Care Unit of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, and continues in the same position. Research topics are shock, hemodynamic monitoring, microcirculation assessment, heart-lung-kidney interaction in critically ill patients, and cardiorenal syndrome.
